“My journey as a mosaic artist began with creating mixed media functional art and furniture. When the curator of a regional art show requested a series of ten distinct chairs, I was challenged to create two in mosaic—one using porcelain and tile, the other stones and seashells—and I was hooked! I love the tactile nature of cutting glass and stone, and the meditative process of placing one tessera after another.
I am currently focusing on the creation of fine art mosaics. I do some sketching and planning at the beginning of a project, but I prefer to work spontaneously. Driven by the endless possibilities of working with a broad range of materials, my greatest joy in the mosaic process is often found in searching for and selecting the materials that often inspire the design of a piece. The work then becomes a captivating exploration with sometimes surprising results. I am witnessing the evolution of a mosaic as I am creating it.”
